One person was killed and two rescued Tuesday when the ATVs they were riding broke through the ice on Fox Lake in Dodge County, the sheriff’s office reported.

According to a news release from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, the incident on the southwest portion of the lake was reported shortly after 6 p.m.

By the time rescue personnel arrived, two of three men were out of the lake but the other was in the water for about an hour until he could be reached by boat.

That person was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, and the two others were treated at the scene and released.

Ice conditions vary on many area waterways and extreme caution should be used by anyone using the frozen surfaces, according to the release.
