Shawn Kahut and Brett Walser took top honors in this year’s Mercury National Walleye Tournament held in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.  The team’s weight of 31.42 pounds was nearly 9 pounds better than the second-place team of Jon Boedeker and Brad Vetter.

The tournament was plagued by high winds on Saturday, making conditions difficult for all anglers.  288 teams of anglers competed in the two-day competition.

All totaled, 1428 tournament quality walleyes were caught during the competition.  Average weight per fish was 1.77 pounds.  31 teams registered no fish.  Only 8 teams eclipsed the 20-pound mark.

Chad Meinburg registered the heaviest walleye which weighed in at 8.24 pounds.  Two other fish on Friday eclipsed the 7.4-pound mark (Steve Goebel).
