With the holidays fast approaching, finding the perfect Christmas gift for fisherman can prove to be a difficult task. The choices on lures, rods and reels are endless, and very confusing for the gift buyer. In an attempt to make your choice easier, here are a few items to consider.
RS Nets
RS nets is an up and coming net company out of Ohio. These nets can be made to your specification related to net and handle color combination. Multiple handle options allow the angler to use one hoop and several handle configurations.
Need a one man net? Add the pro series one man handle, and the handle becomes an extension of your arm, making it easy to net fish while holding a rod. Especially effective for trout, walleye and salmon fishermen. This net is hook and snag resistant, tangle free, and protects the fish for live release. Starting around $100 http://www.rsnetsusa.com/
13 Fishing
Oh Black Betty! This might be the best inline reel on the market for Ice Fishing. A must have for deep water ice fishing, made from the toughest materials including aluminum reel, 5 stainless steel ball bearings and a carbon drag. To determine whether to get a left or right handed reel, choose by determining which hand the anglers reels with. Costs $100 http://www.13fishing.com/#
Off Shore Tackle Planner Board
These are the gold or “Yellow” standard when it comes to planner boards. Made in the USA, lead free, durable and runs true in the water. The Off Shore boards handle rough water better than any other board available in my estimation. Options include quick release adjustable snappers, tattle tale flags and many other variations. Plan to get a pair at a time, a left and a right to make things easier for your angler. Check them out your local Cabela’s, Fleet Farm or bait shop for pricing. http://www.offshoretackle.com/
Shop Local! Made in Beaver Dam, WI. These things work, and this is a recommended product from my staff. The original Slop Frog provides fantastic action over the thickest slop on the lake. Bass and pike devour these lures, also available in larger sizes for Musky. If the fish tear apart the tails, replacement tails are available. The replacement tails also allow you to make new color combinations to entice even the most finicky bass to strike.
The Mendota rig is another choice….But this is still a deep secret on the Bass tournament trails, so I can’t talk about it here. Costs: about $5-7.00 www.slopfrogbaits.com
No matter how picky your favorite anglers are….they will love these products under the Christmas tree. Happy Shopping.
