The warm temperatures today really spiked spawning activity on the Wolf River and I now anticipate that there will be fish spawning from Leeman all the way downstream to New London tomorrow.  Our crew handled 90 fish today at the Sturgeon Trail in New London (Wolf River) and an additional 1 fish at Pfeifer Park in New London (Embarrass River) and 5 fish at the Manawa Dam (Little Wolf River).  We surgically implanted 10-year acoustic tags into the 5 fish at the Manawa Dam and the 1 fish at Pfeifer Park, so we will be able to monitor movements of these fish for the next decade.  The fish were spawning fairly hard at the Sturgeon Trail, but were just getting started at the other sites.  I also did some scouting later in the day today and spawning was just getting started at a multitude of other locations, including Bamboo Bend.
As I forecasted in my email earlier today, I think we will have fish spawning at the Sturgeon Trail in New London again tomorrow.  I also am very confident that Bamboo Bend will be loaded with spawning fish tomorrow and that tomorrow may be the peak spawning day at that location.  There are some fish starting to mass below the Shawano Dam, but they are not close to spawning yet.  There likely will be more fish showing up below Shawano tomorrow, but I would guess that these fish are still a bit away from spawning.  Hopefully that will be the case at least, otherwise this will be a very short spawning run.  I recommend getting out tomorrow (Tuesday) to see fish spawn at public viewing areas of Bamboo Bend or the Sturgeon Trail in New London.
Enjoy the run!
