Inconsistent weather moved through the Winnebago system over the last two weeks. Unseasonably warm and cold temperatures came and went resulting in only some seasonal cooling of the waters on Lake Winnebago. A noticeable decline of fishermen was seen as the deer bow season opened on Saturday. Water temps are hovering in the low to mid 60’s most days.
Perch fishing remains strong despite the variable weather. There has not been much change since the previous report-- and the same methods, locations and general conditions remain in effect. Some of the northern reefs have been especially productive, especially near the Outer Bar.
Walleyes remain elusive. The water temps have reached levels which should get the fall bite into gear in the near future. However, this is Lake Winnebago, so what should happen, probably won’t when we expect it to. There are some walleyes being taken along the reef edges, on crank baits being bounced off of the lake bed.
The Wolf River has improving conditions, and some moderate numbers of walleyes are being noticed by area anglers. Many of these fish are being taken on minnows or Gulp in the deep holes. Crappies are also active. White bass are thick in some areas, and the fall run is officially on.
That’s all folks….Not a lot of new information to report…..Next report as conditions change. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
