OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — The state Department of Natural Resources is working to decontaminate a Lake Winnebago channel north of Oshkosh because of a mysterious petroleum sheen. But DNR is baffled about the source of the oil. DNR spill team leader Roxanne Nelezen Chronert says it doesn't appear to be fresh oil, but they don't know where it's coming from. The agency started getting complaints from local residents in mid-April about a strong diesel-like smell. Residents living on the channel believe it could have come from a barge parked there last winter. They have concerns for wildlife. Neighbor Karen Moyle says hopefully the DNR will get it cleaned up before it harms ducks and fish.
